Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)
Microneedling - Summary
Skin needling, also called microneedling therapy, collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. We have a couple choices of devices at Beauty Marx and generally use a dermapen. The dermapen's needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. Microneedling can be performed on all skin colors and types and is sometimes the preferred treatment over laser as there is no risk of burning your skin.
Microneedling - Detailed Information
Micro-needling is an anti-aging, non-laser, non-surgical procedure that targets numerous skin conditions and issues. Micro-needling uses a handpiece with tiny needles to make small perforations on the skin which then allow the “injured” skin to grow new, more vibrant skin. It is known as the treatment that causes skin to heal itself.
How does micro-needling work?
Micro-needling is a remarkable, non-laser, non-surgical treatment that causes skin to stimulate collagen production and fresh, new tissue. The handpiece contains micro-needles which create thousands of invisible and virtually painless wounds on the skin. The micro-needle breaks down scar tissue, wrinkles, and other skin imperfections. While breaking down the old skin and creating tiny channels in the upper layer of skin, the body also immediately responds by forming new tissue. The newly formed tissue is more plumb, contains more elastin, and has a renewed blood supply resulting in glowing, clearer skin. Topical anesthetic cream is used to keep the patient comfortable during the procedure. Multiple treatments will be necessary for maximum results. The number of needling sessions depends on the individual skin condition. Three or four treatments may be recommended for mild to moderate acne scarring, whereas deeper scars and stretch marks may require upward of five treatments. An interval of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments is typically recommended. Maintenance treatments are recommended at intervals of 6 to 12 months. When utilized for generalized skin resurfacing, products such as topical growth factors and antiaging serums are better absorbed in the skin as an adjunct to treatment.
